Newhaven Archery Club was set up originally in the late
sixties, and after a break of some years re-established in 1986.
Our home range is at Firle, East Sussex, where we shoot
during the spring and summer months, and on suitable days
in the winter. We also use Tideway School, Newhaven, on
alternate Friday evenings and Sundays afternoons from October
to March.
Many members take part in local and regional tournaments, but others
prefer the more relaxed shooting of club target days. The club has
services of qualified coaches and leaders, who provide regular courses
for those new to the sport and those who want to improve their shooting.
The clubs stated aim is the promotion of the sport in all its forms, except
that of bow hunting, which is in any case illegal in the UK. Most members
still shoot Recurve bows, but there are growing sections in Compound and
stronger in the traditional Longbow.
The club is affiliated to the Sussex Counties Archery Association,
Southern Counties Archery Society and The Grand National Archery Society (GNAS).
The club also has a Junior Club with an age range of 10 to 18.
